Anxiety Disorder Support Group

The Anxiety Disorder Support Group is a peer support group that meets monthly for individuals who have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.  There are various types of anxiety disorders.  Whether you are suffering from Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Acute Stress Disorder or a Generalized Anxiety Disorder, the feelings are real to you.  It's frustrating to you, however, that no one else understands what you are feeling.  Everyone handles stress and changing situations differently.  Learning how to cope from other persons in this support group can help one physically, socially, and mentally.

Meeting Times

This group meets on the first and third Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at The Mental health Association, 1509 S. Hawthorne Road, Winston Salem, NC 27103. The group is lead by a trained facilitator. There is no registration or membership fee.  Confidentiality is honored by all members.

Anxiety disorders are not just a case of "nerves".

You cannot overcome an anxiety disorder just through will-power, nor can the symptoms be ignored or wished away.  These disorders cause you to feel anxious most of the time, making everyday situations so uncomfortable that you may avoid them entirely.  Or you may experience occasional instances of anxiety that are so terrifying and intense that you may become immobilized with fear.

Although these conditions can be very frightening and disabling, they are also very treatable.  Therefore, it is important to recognize the symptoms and seek help.  It is crucial to comply with treatment and work closely with the therapist in order to achieve success.  Having a support group can only help with your success.
